The Office of Development Research is responsible for providing information integral to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of alumni, corporations, foundations and friends of the University. The Research Analytics team supports executive management with strategic planning, business & market intelligence and data mining/modeling services.
Reporting to the Associate Director for Development Research Analytics, the Senior Data & Market Analyst is responsible for complex and high quality data analysis and presentation of data related to the advancement of Princeton University's Development office. Candidates must be able to initiate and manage projects related to the analysis of internal data, providing value-added critical-thinking using independent judgment, strategic thinking and problem solving skills. This individual should be fluent in extracting, analyzing and preparing reports of database information, statistics and financial figures.
Principal Duties:
The Senior Data & Market Analyst is responsible for delivering value-added information and analysis to Development Office staff appropriate to departmental needs. Specifically:
- Work with various internal customers to understand their informational and business needs and conceive innovative analytical approaches to addressing business challenges.
- Collect, analyze and present data regarding individual & institutional giving and philanthropic & economic trends to various internal audiences in an accurate, accessible and effective manner.
- Create written reports/graphical presentations compiling and synthesizing this information appropriate to the audience. Prepare accurate, high-quality, timely reports and presentations which are well-conceived, well-written and well-presented.
- Gain and maintain proficiency in the use of proprietary and internal databases and well as appropriate analytical tools.
- Utilize statistical approaches to conduct data modeling projects to assist with strategic planning initiatives.
- Utilize financial information from public sources and indices to provide appropriate benchmarking and meaningful analysis.
- Gather, maintain, and present secondary data relating to peer institutions' individual and institutional giving for benchmarking, tracking, and strategic planning purposes.
- Work closely with internal departments to use various data sources in preparing analysis.
- Create actionable high-quality reports and graphical presentations that include insight and analysis from analytics and research findings, informing the strategy of internal Development departments.
- Serve on internal committees and project teams as well as being a proficient and effective project manager on cross-team projects.
- Excellent quantitative analysis skills, attention to detail and the ability to think strategically. Demonstrated ability to use technology to gather, interpret, organize and present data.
- Excellent written/oral/interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to identify and articulate business challenges, project objectives, and analytical approach; prepare clear, concise reports with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Knowledge of tools and techniques for collecting, synthesizing and analyzing data.
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
- Strong initiative, self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously to accommodate shifting priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience with database management, analysis, and database visualization tools, e.g. SQL programming, SPSS, and Tableau preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in a discretionary manner.
- High degree of professionalism, a positive 'can do' attitude and strong work ethic.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others
- Appreciation for the principles of fundraising.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of Princeton and higher education and the goals and guiding principles of the Office of Development.
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in an analytical, research or information specialist role within an academic, nonprofit, corporate or consulting setting
- Advanced degree / graduate education
- Previous experience in a fundraising environment
